Load Cell for Tank assembly for silo, tank and vessel weighing The VC3500 family of load cells are available in capacities  . They are especially suitable for high capacity vessel weighing and feature a combined error specification of < +/- 0.03%. The critical sensor element of the VC3500 unit is a fully welded double ended shear beam, manufactured from high tensile 17-4 PH released stainless steel, heat treated to give a high ultimate tensile strength. This treatment provides an extremely stable platform for the strain gauges. In common with all Thames Side Sensors load cells, the strain gauged element is temperature compensated to ensure accuracy throughout a wide temperature range. Stainless steel diaphragms are TIG welded in position to provide total environmental sealing. This method of construction allows Thames Side Sensors to offer a five year warranty on the complete unit. ATEX version available for Gas and Dust zones. ATEX certification for Dust zones 20, 21 and 22 does not require safety barriers- this saves substantial cost.

Tank Weighing System:-

Tank weighing system normally consists of load cells, junction box and weighing controller. It is widely used in production management and process control areas where weight measurement & control is involved.

 

The general idea of tank weighing is to place load cells under each foot of the tank/hopper/vessel, then connects the load cells to a weighing controller through a junction box which is used to compensate the signal difference of the load cells. The weighing controller is able to display the weight value after the system is calibrated, the indicator is equipped with relays output, 0-5V/0-10V/4-20mA analog output and communication port for automation control purpose.

 

The most common concerns about choosing suitable load cells invole:

Mounting--Load cell needs to mounted under tank foot easily and firmly.

Accuracy--Different weighing applications have different requirements of measuring accuracy.

Capacity-- Uneven load distribution should be considered when choosing load cell capacity.

Ingress protection--Depending on the operating environment.

 

Before calibration, corner trimming is needed, which can be done through junction box, the point of corner trimming is to make sure every load cell gets the same output under same load, so the weighing system will get the same readout even though the weight is distributed unevenly.

 

Calibration is extremely important to get the weighing system work functionally.The difficult part is to find the dead weight for the span calibration  There are many ways to get the dead weight, water is most common used; weight measured by another proved weighing device is also a good choice
